When I was younger my Mom would clean out her purse about once a month because it was so heavy. When she sat down to clean it out you would see the normal stuff. A wallet, lipstick, some coupons & receipts, gum and way at the bottom, her change purse. She quickly realized where the weight was coming from. She added daily to her change purse unconsciously adding more weight for her to carry. When she put all the change from her purse in the beloved Absopure jug the weight was lifted. This is how we are as Christians when we don’t cast our cares over to Jesus when we first get them. Oftentimes we put the care away in the back of our mind and “forget” about it. But eventually we start to feel heavy because we are now carrying our collected cares. Anxiety begins to flare, panic attacks arise, depression creeps in all because we are putting our cares in the bottom of our bag inside another bag. But your “change purse” is not the correct place for it. When’s the last time you checked your change purse? Are you feeling heavy? Are you worried about things that you thought you were past? Do you find yourself questioning things that you already got an answer to? Check your change purse.
Ask yourself did you really give it over to God and leave it there. The beautiful thing about the Absopure jug was that if you wanted some change you had to work for it. You had to turn the entire thing over and only a little came out at a time. It made you save that change for when you really needed it. Treat your cares like the change in the Absopure jug. Cast them to Jesus and leave them there. And every now and then you can look back and thank Him for all he has done for you. All the weight He has carried for you.
This post may not be for you. But I know I had to check my change purse. No need to carry the cares of 2020 into 2021. Letting it go and giving it to Jesus on January 1, 2021.
No need for a new year catch phrase just,
“Check your change”.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”
Hebrews 12:1 NIV
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Psalms 55:22 NIV
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 NIV
